Accessibility Statement

Last updated: May 16, 2026

The Weekend Fixer is committed to making its content accessible to everyone, including readers with disabilities. We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard recommended by the U.S. Access Board for federal websites and used by most US publishers as a baseline.

Conformance status

The Weekend Fixer is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard, and we are actively working to address gaps. Our self-assessment was last performed on May 16, 2026.

Accessibility features we provide

  • Semantic HTML — headings, lists, navigation, and landmarks use proper HTML elements so screen readers understand page structure
  • Alt text on images — every photo in every guide includes descriptive alternative text
  • Keyboard navigation — the entire site is operable by keyboard alone (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Esc)
  • Skip links — keyboard users can skip directly to the main content from the top of any page
  • Color contrast — body text meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1; large text (18px+ bold or 24px+ regular) meets 3:1
  • Resizable text — content is readable when text is scaled up to 200% in the browser
  • Focus indicators — keyboard focus is visible on all interactive elements
  • Form labels — every input has a programmatically associated label
  • Responsive layout — content reflows on mobile, tablet, and desktop without horizontal scrolling at 320px width
  • Reduced motion — animations honor the prefers-reduced-motion system setting
  • Plain language — guides aim for an 8th-grade reading level to remain accessible to non-native English speakers and readers with cognitive disabilities

Known limitations

We are aware of the following accessibility gaps and are working to resolve them:

  • Some older photos in pre-2024 articles do not have detailed alt-text descriptions. We are updating these on a rolling basis as articles are refreshed.
  • Embedded third-party content (e.g., YouTube videos) may not always have synchronized captions. We add captions to our own videos; for third-party embeds we encourage you to enable YouTube’s auto-captions.
  • The AdSense advertising units may not always meet color-contrast guidelines because we do not control the ad creative; we are limited to placement, not content.
  • PDF downloads (if any) may not always be fully tagged for screen readers. Email us at the address below and we will provide an accessible version.

Assistive technology compatibility

The Site has been tested with:

  • NVDA (Windows) + Firefox & Chrome
  • VoiceOver (macOS) + Safari
  • VoiceOver (iOS) + Safari
  • TalkBack (Android) + Chrome

Continuous improvement

Accessibility is not a one-time project. We:

  • Audit the Site quarterly using a combination of automated tools (axe DevTools, Lighthouse) and manual screen-reader testing
  • Train our author on accessibility best practices for every new article
  • Include accessibility review as part of our 12-month article refresh cycle
